shock me, shock me

I’m going to say something here that will probably make a lot of people very mad.

Krispy Kreme donuts are good, but they aren’t worth camping out for.

Shocking, isn’t it?

Now, I like Krispy Kreme. I like going to the Krispy Kreme store, which we don’t have here for some reason, and picking out my two donuts and getting a coffee and sitting with the hubs and enjoying a little fattening breakfast.

But long lines that stretch around the block and people camping out and the need for police and such that I hear that comes with a Krispy Kreme opening? GOOD GRIEF, PEOPLE. THEY ARE JUST DONUTS.

Personally, I am a huge fan of Sundale Donuts, which can be found in my hometown of The Woodlands. Love the stuff. Still wouldn’t camp out for them or start a riot, but I love the donuts.

Honestly, I think this is just one of those things that people hear about so they do. Like “Everyone knows that when a Krispy Kreme opens, you go and sleep on the sidewalk.”

Rolls eyes.

And, before I leave you wanting to go and run down and get yourself a dozen donuts (which sounds pretty good right now) I have one final thing to tell you. I DON’T EVEN LIKE THEM WHEN THEY ARE EXTREMELY HOT.

Just warm.

  1. There are a lot of those places here, dude. There’s one a few blocks from my house, one downtown, one in katy, one in the galleria (corner of richmond and fountain view–it’s next to my favourite bar)…. They’re everywhere.

And if you ask me, they’re the most god-awful donuts ever. Disgusting.

  2. Hmm, overly sweet 90% air donuts that only taste good when less than 10 minutes old…Sorry they ain’t even that good.
Give me a cake donut that is dense enough to sink in the tea or coffee its dunked in, with no frosting or glaze, or a cinnimon roll, thank you.

My poor father is addicted to them, and now he looks like he’s expecting now too ;)

  4. There was the same kind of hullabaloo out here (Los Angeles area) when the first Krispy Kremes opened here. Kinda creepy. Don’t get me wrong, I love doughnuts, BUT, it’s just so weird that people are so obsessed.
And that 21 year old that said it was the best birthday present ever?!? What???? Does he have a LIFE?
BTW, we (my hubs included) purchased a little something for your registry. :)

  5. My mother in law brought us a box and expectantly waited for the gush of accolade and praise that ought to accompany a box of Krispy Kremes. When no such hallelujahs came singing out of our mouths she was positively indignant. “Well! What does it take to please you two?!”

We said thanks, what more do you want woman?

  7. I love my cake donuts, too. :)

Kripy Kremes are good, but definitely not the best. I remember when the area went crazy when the first stores came to the Seattle area. We made a trip one night out to Issaqua for some but I’ll chalk that up to a pregnancy craving as I’d never do that again for only donuts.

They’re everywhere here in SoCal, so at least when one sounds good I’ll grab one without having to wait in huge lines.

I prefer the donuts made by the local shop in my area when I do pick some up.
