The apartment is packed, though it felt very weird to leave. The truck is moved to a somewhat safer place. I obviously have my computer with me.

I will be trying to update to my Flickr account via my cameraphone. Also, if I’m without electricity for awhile, I will contact Curly Girl via phone. Check in with her for updates.

Also, I was interviewed by ABC Perth (Australia) tonight about the hurricane. I’m very sorry that everyone had to listen to my horrible “not made for radio” voice!

Great. Now Aussies will think we ALL sound like that.

Just kidding. Like Kim said, stay safe.

    Hi SJ,

You were great. And the feedback we’ve had was very appreciative of you telling your story. It is difficult for us here to imagine staying in such circumstances - especially after the coverage of Katrina, but now I think we understand better the circumstances that the average Houstonite are in (not that you’re average my dear!).
    So thank you again,

    720 ABC Perth

Safe travels! I don’t know where you are going, but I hope you get there! And thanks for speaking up for those of us who have been forced to stay and telling our story!

Haven’t chatted you up in a while, but with all this hurricane crap going on, I couldn’t help but think of you and the family. I have no doubt y’all will emerge unscathed. Can’t wait to hear from you on the other side of Rita. You’ll be in my thoughts.

Well, we didn’t get it too badly now did we? Hope you and the fam got out okay. I had to stay behind, workin night shift at the hospital. So far, fingers crossed, we still have power. The winds were howling so hard, they were whistling through our double-paned, bullet proof windows. The sound was eerie.

Trust you to speak on Aussie radio when I’m not in Oz to hear it lol. Thinking of you and everyone there. Take care.

How lucky are we? I CAN NOT believe we made it through so unscathd (knock wood as the wind is still gusting). We even have power! Yay!

Trust you to get inteviewed by Perth radio, while here we all sit with Perth and Geraldton ringing to see how we are. I told D’s parents they missed their one chance at fame by not contacting the news agencies down there and volunterring to be australians abroad in the thick of it.

D and his dad even got to watch the eagles lose the grand final amidst the winds and rain. The only minor crisis we have is that they’ve worked their way through their beer stash.
