Ellie’s Sixth Month

Dear Ellie,

Yesterday, you turned sixth months old! Six months! That’s half a year. I’m still trying to grasp my head around the fact that I have a sixth month old.

Today, you did something very special. You threw a temper tantrum. It was very cute and all, as you didn’t want to go to sleep so you got mad and beat me with your fists while you kicked your legs really, really fast!

You may have thrown temper tantrums before, but really, you’re changing so fast that it’s hard to keep up with you! I think what I love being around you everyday is when I notice you doing something for the first time. Such as when you realized that you had a tongue and you stuck it out. And ever since? Your tongue has been hanging out of your mouth like a cute little puppy dog.

You also discovered your girl bits. One day you just stuck your hand down there and bam! There they were! I pulled your hand away, not because it is naughty to touch your girl bits, but because I was worried you might accidentally get your finger caught in the crack and rip something.

You’re so cute yet so violent at the same time! You get so excited when I open the front door, you start jumping and kicking and head banging all at the same time. And when we walk down the stairs? Woah! You’d think we were going to a Chocolate Factory, not just our old Toyota.

You also like to climb me. This makes for some very intresting sessions when you’re eating from the boob.

And you’re big! We went to the doctor today and they say you weigh 18 pounds, 4 ounces and are 27 inches long! Now you know why we call you “chunk.” Oh? And don’t listen when family members call you “chubby.” You’re not chubby, you’re just a big girl.

I love your laugh and I love your snorts and I love it when you start throwing your arms and legs around until you look like you are swimming. You’re sitting up like a champ now and I know you’re eventually going to crawl. I’m not sure how I feel about that as crawling is what big babies do and you’re my itty bitty little one.

So far, we’ve fed you sweet potato (somewhat liked), green beans (hated), carrots (hated), bananas (liked), squash (liked) and oatmeal (loved more than you love your mama). You’ve also started eating wheat bread, which you love to shove into your mouth. I’m not sure if you’ve actually eaten any of it yet, as I seem to pick up a very large amount of it off the floor when you’re done.

I know you so well, you’re more of a little person than a baby. You have your moods and I can tell what’s up with you, just by the time of day and the sound of your cry.

Every day, I try to remind myself to enjoy you just how you are. You’ve already changed so much in the past six months, I can’t even imagine who you will be in six more. All I know is this: Whoever you become, you’ll always be my beautiful little girl.

  2. Man alive, she gets cuter every time!! Enjoy the time you have with her….it really does go way to fast. I can still feel the pain of my last labour…and yet she’s getting closer to 4 by the day.

  4. She is so cute. And only 1.5 pounds behind my 8 month old medium sized baby!

    And you look fabulous.

And about the girl bits thing…I know all about that. You don’t want to discourage them or make them feel like they are doing something wrong, but goddammit if you’re gonna allow them to tear a special piece off. Could you imagine the pain during urination?

They don’t tell you this stuff in baby books.

Anyways…the two of you look so good. You are going to have so much fun with that little girl more so when she get’s older.

  6. She is beautiful! My little one is almost 4 and it does go so fast. Saw a baby food commercial last night and it made me sad. But then the kids started fighting and I snapped back into reality. You look great btw.

  11. This is so cute! When I was little my mom kept a journal documenting these sorts of moments with me and my sister. She gave us a copy of the journal when I was about 20 and my sister was 24. We had no idea she had kept a journal like this and we both couldn’t help but cry and cry as we read! This entry makes me want to cry too! In a very good way of course - it just strikes a very sweet nerve and Ellie is going to love reading this someday.
