Not what I expected….

I have this thing. This thing about Christmas cards. I always have had a desire to take a cute picture and turn it into our card. The first year, it worked. I used a picture from our wedding. It was the moment we were pronounced husband and wife and were about to walk down the isle.

Of course, people bitched at us because neither one of us were looking at the camera! Oh! The horror of not looking at a camera for THE Christmas card picture.

Last year? I was pregnant. The picture didn’t happen. I just couldn’t get around to it.

But this year, oh, this year I was determined to take a damn picture. So we were out in the woods outside of Tulsa on Saturday and I wanted to take some pictures to hopefully make a card.

First problem? The hair. Second: We’re both wearing t-shirts. Third? Ellie wasn’t in the mood to cooperate.

The problem I didn’t expect was to see how chubby I looked. We needed some butter for the rolls on my chin.

So basically, with the Hubs unable to smile normally for a picture, Ellie unable to LOOK in the direction of the camera and the disaster known as my hair and flab, well, we didn’t have much to choose from.

So there was ONE PICTURE that I thought looked sorta okay. I look like shit, but well, it’s not all about me, ya know?

Wanna see?

Didn’t even notice the two smoochy adults in this picture - all I can see are those yummy, chubby baby cheeks. Nice picture!!

Give yourself more credit than that. You look great in the pictures I’ve seen of you. :-)

The above picture is great. Ellie looks like she’s enjoying all that attention. :-D

I think that’s the perfect picture, very original. You’re not looking at the camera, though! ;)

Okay, to me, Christmas is about love.

If this picture doesn’t scream love, I don’t know what would! You and hubby are making eye contact with each other with a look of deep love (for lack of a better word, here) for one another and little Ellie is basking in this glory. The symbolism is working here also.

It’s perfect, dude. And, I will reiterate…you DONT LOOK FAT. Fuck that inner critic…she’s a bitch, anyway.

That’s why I picked this picture. I didn’t look fat.

Damn, I’m more vain than I thought.

That is the perfect Christmas card picture.

One year when I was about 6 or 7, my family went inner tubing down a river. My mom stayed on dry land and took a picture of us, soaked and cold and bitten by turtles and generally freaked out, and threatened to use it as our holiday card. Imagine my dad’s horror (and that of my mom’s best friend, who also went down the river with us) when she actually DID IT! Agh!

    Anyway, great photo– use it!

I don’t think you look fat. I’m pretty sure, though I don’t know you, that I’m heavier than you are. And I didn’t just have a baby.

That is a most adorable picture.

Great pic, SJ. Definitely a keeper . C’mon though, don’t you want to go sit in front of the fake fireplace at Sears? ;-)

Gawd she is precious. Are you just trying to get us to tell you that you aren’t fat? You are, aren’t you? *grumbles* =)~

beautiful picture. And I think that, just because people complained about it, you should make a habit of neither you or your husband looking at the camera for the picture. (yes, I’m slightly vindictive like that.)

    It IS perfect.

And no, you don’t look like crap… and no, you don’t need “butter for all the rolls on my chin”. Oy.

You look delightful and we should all be so lucky.

That’s cute! For our Christmas card the year our son was born (on Dec. 26), my wife put a ribbon on her belly and I took a photo. The cover was a closeup of the ribbon, and inside was a full picture of her. I’m sure it’s been done before.

I must tell everyone that I appreciate your nice comments and that I didn’t mean for this to turn into a “You’re not fat fest.” I guess the postpartum thing is hard because your body changes and its not for the better. As someone who worked out a lot before the baby came (with all that time I had!) and ate healthy, I’m having to learn to get back into old habits. And speaking of old habits, my “I’m fat” phobia is something that goes back a long, long time. Good thing I’m in therapy.

YOU AREN’T FAT! :-P I just had to be a smart ass and say it one more time. But seriously, you aren’t, I am. I am huge and fat and I am now realizing after THREE kids that they make you kind of big. But you only had one, so you are ok.

That picture is adorable as are you and your family. It captures so much love.
