Genitally speaking…

I meant to say, the other day, my Mother-in-law called and I was talking to her for a bit. We’re all “la la baby la la Christmas la la Thanksgiving la la.”

And then she tells me that something triggered a herpes outbreak. Then the shit hits the fan. “The oral kind, not the genital kind.”

I feel like crying now. That’s up there with my Mom telling me and my husband that she wants to stay at my Grandparents house when she visits so they can have sex in their guest room.

Can’t you people just leave your genitals out of the conversation?

Yo, the “oral kind” can be transmitted to the genitals (oral sex w/sores on the mouth), so ya better give your moms-in-law a heads-up. The “oral kind” is simplex 1. From UCLA Medical School website:

The viruses in the Herpes family are: Herpes simplex 1 (HSV 1), Herpes simplex 2 (HSV 2), Varicela-zoster virus(VZV), Human herpesvirus 6 (HH6), Human herpesvirus 8 (HH8), Epstein Barr virus (EBV) and Cytomegalovirus (CMV). HSV 1 is mostly associated with oral and ophthalmic lesions, HSV2 produces genital disease. Some cases of oral herpetic infection are associated with HSV 2 and some cases of genital herpetic infection are produced by HSV 1. This cross-over is most likely due to oral-genital contact. HSV2 is considered to have oncogenic capabilities as opposed to HSV1 which have been shown not to participate in oncogenesis.

Let’s all pretend they don’t do that, shall we?

No such thing as “cold sores.” They are herpes 1.
